He is preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Doris Matthews and sister, Brenda Diane Matthews.
He is survived by his wife, Rae Matthews; brothers, Terry Charles Matthews, Gerald Wayne Matthews and Timothy Howard Matthews; he is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 5 pm to 8 pm at Chattanooga Funeral Home, North Chapel. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 10 am to 11 am.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
