

Medina Cowart Dye, age 81, of Hixson died Monday October 31, 2011 in Chattanooga. She was born September 24, 1930 in Medina, NY to the late Walter and Ava Cowart. She was a graduate of Hixson High School, graduated from Hiwassee College and received her B. S. from Middle Tennessee State University. She taught school at famous Francis Scott Key # 76 School on Baltimore, MD and taught 39 years in the fourth grade at Hixson Elementary School where she was the teacher sponsor of the Red Cross, she worked on the committee to select math textbooks for the city schools, she is a life member of the P. T. A., she received the Hixson Elementary P. T. O. Distinguished Service Award 1981-1982. Mrs. Dye traveled to all continents and also traveled in all 50 states. She was a member of Hixson United Methodist Church and the Sam McConnell Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years S. Ralph Dye; son Stan (Debbye) Dye, Jr.; sisters Dorothy Baker, Virginia Webb, and Sandra Stott; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Thursday November 3, 2011 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Dr. Curtis Schofield and Reverend John Bacon officiating.
The family will receive friends at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home Wednesday evening from 4-9.
