Michael John Abernathy

Mike, the son of Fred Robert and Jean Reeves Abernathy, was born October18, 1957, in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was a graduate of Sullivan Central High School in Blountville, Tennessee, and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.

Mike’s long career in logistics and sales included stops at Signal Mountain Cement, Ryder, John Deere, and Home Depot. He was a loving husband, brother, and uncle; a loyal University of Tennessee fan; an avid reader; and an excellent cook.

Mike is survived by his wife of 31 + years, Paula Beason Abernathy and their four furry children of Chattanooga; a sister, Laura Abernathy Poe (Jim) of Atlanta, Georgia; two brothers Robert R. (Bob) Abernathy of Church Hill, Tennessee, and Stephen V. Abernathy of Taylors, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

An informal celebration of Mike’s life is planned for 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Hwy. 53 in Hixson, Tennessee.
