He was born on July 9, 1939, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Paul and Marguerite Landess. Dick and Joyce were high school sweethearts and were married for 64 years. In those 64 years, they built a life and family, traveled all over the country on motorcycles, and served their community in a multitude of ways. He retired from DuPont as a computer engineer.
Dick was a member of Hixson First Baptist for 47 years, where he served as a deacon, usher, and in the audiovisual team. He was also actively involved with his Sunday School class. He was a proud member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association, where he served in multiple leadership roles. He was also a member of the HOG (Harley Owners Group), where he served in leadership roles. He was affectionately known as “Boss Hog” in the motorcycle community.
Dick was survived by his wife Joyce, children Rick (Stacy) and Judy (Mike), and his grandchildren Abby, Rebecca (Joseph), Mae, Zach (Maddie), and Erika (Tyler).
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 2, and from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
Funeral services for “Dick” will follow at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the North Chapel with Dr. Steven Granger and Mike Norris officiating.
Burial will follow at the National Cemetery with military honors
