Mr. Ronnie Ronnie Earl Shumate Jr.

Ronald “Ronnie” Earl Shumate, Jr., 48, of Hixson, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 01, 2010.Ronnie was born in Rockwood, Tennessee, and attended schools in Hixson and Red Bank. He was a 1980 graduate of Red Bank High School. Ronnie was a talented athlete in basketball and football from YMCA all thru his high school years where he was named Honorable Mention All State in Football his Senior Year. He continued his football in college at Marion Military Institute, and Southeast Missouri State University. Ronnie was an outstanding Quarterback on the SEMO team, holding the distinction of being 12th in the Nation in Offensive Performances for Division II Schools. Ronnie was a Truck Driver by profession and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of the Church of Christ.He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Frances Hickey of Rockwood and Earl and Thelma Shumate of Portsmouth, Ohio.Ronnie is survived by his daughter, Kaitlin Shumate; and his ex-wife, Cynthia Luttrell both of Jackson, Missouri; mother, Margaret “Micki” Hickey Shumate, of Hixson; father and step-mother, Ron and Peggy Shumate of Soddy Daisy; sisters, Laura Coulston and husband Jeff , of Scottsboro, Alabama and Lisa Christopher, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; uncle, Paul Hickey of North Hollywood, California and an aunt, Suzanne Williams and husband Mike of Portsmouth, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and cousins.The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 PM on Thursday at the North Chapel.Services for Ronnie will follow at 7:30 PM on Thursday at the North Chapel with Father Nathan Brooks of Missionary Order of St. Thomas More officiating.Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood, Tennessee.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ronnie’s name to the American Heart Association, 519 East 4th Street, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37403.Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
