

Sue became a Christian when she was nine years old. She was a 1951 graduate of Etowah High School where she was a cheerleader. Sue was a member of New Salem Baptist Church where her husband Rev. Ted Painter served as pastor for 38 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents James T. and Nell Gaston; and her siblings, James Taylor Gaston, Jr., Margaret Brown, Sarah Sherrill, Bob Gaston and Durl Mart Gaston.
Sue is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Rev. Ted Painter and was very proud of her devoted family, which includes her daughter; Penny and three grandchildren, Ashton Daniel (Darrell) Pittman, Hunter Daniel and Laura Daniel; a special little girl, Lana Pittman, her great granddaughter; and a lifetime friend, Katherine Harolson.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 9 PM on Thursday at the North Chapel.
Services for Sue will be held at 11 AM on Friday at the North Chapel with Rev. Alan Rogers, Rev. Bill Freeney and Rev. Charlie Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery with Gary Brown, Mike Stiles, Royce Raines, Gregg Stiles, Tommy Burton and Ronnie Fisher serving as pallbearers. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Dan Cox, Donald Pritchett, Johnny Askew and the Harvester’s Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sue’s name to New Salem Baptist Church Library fund at 9806 Dallas Hollow Road, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379 or Hospice of Chattanooga, P. O. Box 19269, Chattanooga, TN 37416.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
