Ted W. Lavender of Chattanooga, Tennessee entered into rest on Monday, September 13, 2021. Ted was born to Maude and Harry Lavender in Stamford, Texas on August 1, 1927. He was a member of the Church of Christ attending the Central congregation and later Tyner Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 66 years, Norma V. Lavender; and his sister, Nancy L. Johnson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his nephew, Brant T. Johnson of Collinsville, Oklahoma; niece, Caren J. Mims (Scott) of Midland, Texas; great nieces and nephew, Leah Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Cari Mims and Brent Mims as well as a sister-in-law, Carolyn V. Cornett of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
Ted proudly served his country in two wars – World War II and the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged with a rank of Sergeant. While stationed at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, he met his future wife, Norma at Central Church of Christ in Chattanooga. He attended both John Tarleton College, Stephenville, Texas and North Texas State from which he graduated.
Following his military service, he became a Certified Public Accountant and worked for Atlantic Richfield in Odessa, Texas and Lafayette, Louisiana, before retiring to Chattanooga.
The family offers special thanks to Ted’s friend and caregiver, Dale Ann Fowler and nurse, Tanya Goode; as well as Kindred Hospice and Comprehensive Care.
The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at the North Chapel of the Chattanooga Funeral Home, Highway 153, Hixson, Tennessee from Noon until 2:00 p.m., followed at 2:30 by a private graveside service and interment at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Martin Boyd Christian Home, 6845 Standifer Gap Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee; Boyd Buchanan School, 4650 Buccaneer Trail, Chattanooga, Tennessee or your charity of choice.
Masks will be appreciated, as well as social distancing and all CDC measures followed at the funeral home and cemetery.
