She was born in Highland Park, Michigan and grew up in Royal Oak where she graduated from high school in 1943. At graduation she had a cold that turned into pleurisy and a lung infection. She spent a year in the hospital resulting in a lobectomy. This experience influenced her decision to enter nurses training as a Cadet Nurse in 1945 at Henry Ford Hospital.
Virginia and her late husband Jene moved to the Chattanooga area in 1988. They became active members of St. John’s United Methodist and was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. They volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Bethel Bible Village, Changed Lives and helping to build churches in South Dakota.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jene; son, Ronne and two brothers, Joseph and William; son-in-law, Reid Henson.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Jana Henson; grandchildren, Clayton Henson and Anna (John Michael) Lloyd and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia will be buried with her husband at National Cemetery.
