Billy was born and raised in Falling Water, Tennessee, and was a 1956 graduate of Soddy Daisy High School. Billy proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from the Hamilton County Highway Department after thirty plus years, and he was a member of Union Springs Baptist Church.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Annie Richie; sister, Wanda Skinner.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Shirley Craft Richie; brother, Leon Richie and several nieces and nephews. The family’s fondest memories of Billy are his trips to the mountains, hunting, his affection for his cats and his love of the Bible and History.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 pm on Tuesday and 1:30 to 2:30 pm on Wednesday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Billy’s life will follow at 2:30 pm on Wednesday at the North Chapel with his Pastor Odell Broadway officiating. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Ronnie Richie, Bobby Skinner, Joe Lewis, Jr., Elbert Stubblefield, Jimmy Ray Gifford and Willard Moses serving as pallbearers.
Memorial contributions may be made in Billy’s name to the building fund at Union Springs Baptist Church, 5911 Levi Road, Chattanooga, TN 37415.
