Alton Lee Bozeman Sr.

On August 29, 1938, Alton Lee Bozeman was born to parents, Olivia Payne Bozeman and Aaron Bozeman, in Pattison, Texas.  Alton attended Royal High School where he played basketball and achieved academic excellence as a student athlete. Upon high school graduation, he attended Prairie View A&M University, graduating in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. After graduating from Prairie View A&M, Alton enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1961 to 1967. He was stationed in Germany as a cryptographer, decoding cryptic messages for the U.S. in the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from military service, Alton forged a legacy by becoming one of the first few black professionals relied upon by the industries in which he worked. He became one of the first black employees who worked at Shell Oil Company as an accountant. Subsequent to that employment, he became the first black loan officer in the city of Houston, Texas. He worked several years in the mortgage industry for Allstate, Sears, and other mortgage companies. He is preceded in death by his parents, Olivia Payne Bozeman and Aaron Bozeman; his four beloved sisters, Orange Evelyn Bozeman Latour, Theresa Alzetta Bozeman Lewis, Marjorie Bozeman Riley, and Thelma Gray; four nieces, Janice C. Hughes, Jacqueline Nellams, Nichelle E. Riley-Warren, and Gina Marie Bozeman; and one nephew, Dwayne K. Rice. He is survived by his four children, Marc Anson Bozeman, Alton Lee Bozeman, Jr. (Jacqui), Lance Bozeman, and Lindsey Bozeman Robinson (Kevin); three grandsons, Alton Lee Bozeman, III, Aiden Preston Bozeman, and Ashton Lee Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Services will be held at Carl Barnes Funeral Home, located at 1728, 746 W 22nd St., Houston, TX 77008, on June 10th. Visitation will begin at 10 am and conclude at 12 pm. The service will begin at 12 pm and conclude at 1 pm. The burial at Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038, will take place at 1:45 pm.
