

Surrounded by family, Amelia Partida Martinez, or “Amelia”, died peacefully on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at the age of 94. She will be missed by her family and friends and will always be remembered for her love of family, her friendship to others, her strong Christian faith.
Amelia was born on June 28, 1930, in Houston, Texas. She grew up in Magnolia Park and graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1948, where she was a member of the Black Battalion. She was a founding member of the social club, Club Verde Mar and became a member of the Azalea Club. After marriage, she was a stay-at-home mom for many years taking care of her family and raising four children. Later, she became a real estate professional that lasted almost 30 years.
Amelia loved attending Mass, praying and had a strong faith. She attended several churches during her life, most recently, St. Francis de Sales and St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Churches.
She also loved to travel and was very proud that she was able to live in the Netherlands for 4 years when her husband was an expat. During this time, they were able to visit several European countries. And later was able to take a special trip back to Holland as well as Spain, South America, Canada and all throughout the United States.
For fun, there was never a casino Amelia did not like. Even taking a trip this past June for her birthday to Lake Charles.
Amelia is survived by daughters Mary Lillian Martinez, and Patricia Martinez Parra (John Parra) and son Anthony J. Martinez, Jr. She is preceded in death by parents Florencio Partida and Rosa Ramirez Partida, husband Anthony J. Martinez, Sr., daughter Deborah A. Martinez, brother Frank Partida and sister Rosa P. Gonzalez. She is also survived by her sister Agnes Caudillo, numerous nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
A funeral mass for Amelia will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 10688 Shadow Wood Dr., Houston, TX 77043 at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 4th, 2025. It will be preceded at 9:30 a.m. by a short visitation. The burial will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. The night before there will be a visitation starting at 5:00 p.m. and a rosary starting at 6:30 p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.
