Andrew Murphy Locklin was born on Dec. 19, 1955, in Houston, Texas, and went to be with his Lord and wife Kathryn Elizabeth Mills, on May 29, 2019, in Houston, Texas. During his 63-year journey he lived in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana and Georgia. Andy is survived by his mother Barbara Marvine Juerges Locklin; sister Amy Kileen Locklin Noorian; daughter Chrystine Dawn Pellerin; son Andrew Marshall Locklin and wife Evelyn Urdiales; son James Wesley Locklin and wife Lorinda Hulet; grandchildren Wesley Christian Petrowski, Kathryn Elizabeth Pellerin, Beau Andrew Locklin, Kaitlyn Danielle Bienek, Evan Paul Bienek, Brianna Michelle Bienek, Vincent Matthew Bienek, Zachary Celestino Locklin and Abigail Florence Locklin. Andy’s father, James Berry Locklin, and brother, Matthew Juerges Locklin, predeceased him.
Andy was born into a home of modest means, but full of love and hard working people. His parents, little sister and many grandparents, uncles and aunts welcomed him as the first boy of the newest generation. From 1959 to 1963 the family lived in Hutchinson and Salina, Kansas, where Andy learned to play baseball, ride a bike and explore Indian encampments. In 1963 the family returned to Pasadena, where Andy developed his lifelong talent for bringing home dogs who looked like they were lost and needed someone to take care of them.
This was also the time when Andy and his dad created the Boyd Mullen Little League so every boy who wanted to play baseball could be on a team. Andy had a love of sports and as part of that worked with his dad radio broadcasting local high school and junior college sports events. He graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in 1973, served in the Army and attended San Jacinto Junior College. In 1974 he married Kathy and was blessed with his children and grandchildren. Andy will be remembered for his loyalty, tenacious work ethic and generosity.
While preparing for a Mother’s Day get together, he was fixing a fence and was bitten by a spider. Due to complications from the treatment he received, he developed massive internal bleeding, a cardiac arrest and cerebral artery stroke. These events overwhelmed his mind and body, from which he could not recover. He was well taken care of until his final breath, when he could happily be with Kathy again. Graveside services will be on Monday, June 3, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
