Angela Kay Blanchard’s life was a shining example of her deep love for God, which served as the foundation of her unwavering faith. Her faith in God guided her every action, filled her heart with compassion, and inspired her selfless devotion to others. Angela’s love for God was not just a belief but a lived experience that permeated every aspect of her life, from her interactions with her family to her service to the church and community.
Born on January 26, 1960 in Houston, Texas to Leon and Dorothy Preston, Angela (affectionately known as Kay) was second of five children. While her parents know her for being the responsible “little lady”, her brothers (Reginald and Ronald) and sisters (Cynthia and Shonice) know her for being the cheerleader with an amazing backflip.
Angela attended Ralph E. Kirby Middle School. In class during her 8th grade year, she met the love of her life, Roy Oliver Blanchard Jr. A true love story, Roy and Angela were inseparable. The two remained high school sweethearts through their senior year at M.B. Smiley High School and married on June 2, 1979 a week after graduating high school.
Angela and Roy were blessed with three beautiful children: Lesley, Roy III and Dalvin. Together they formed a close-knit family that cherished spending quality time together, especially when traveling. Their adventures served as bonding experiences, creating lasting memories that strengthened their family ties.
When Dalvin was diagnosed with cancer, the Blanchard family demonstrated incredible strength and endurance. They rallied together to provide unwavering support for Dalvin, accompanying him through his treatments and showing resilience in the face of adversity. Despite the heart-wrenching loss of Dalvin, the family’s love and unity helped them navigate through their grief, showcasing their resilience and deep connection with each other.
In addition to her husband and children, triumphs and trials were shared with Angela’s best friend of 34 years, Monique Henry. From being a witness at Monique’s wedding, to traveling, to serving in ministry, Monique and Angela were practically inseparable throughout their lives.
Angela was an active member of ministry, growing up in Gospel Hill Baptist Church, growing in Lorraine Street COGIC, and serving at Greater Grace Houston. She dedicated her life to service in the house of the Lord, whether as financial secretary, Sunday school teacher, choir member, Evangelist, community outreach and Vacation Bible School coordinator, church custodian and transportation service, food committee coordinator, prayer warrior, armor bearer, minister of baptism and so much more. She touched countless lives, leading friends and family to Christ through her willing spirit and steadfast faith in the Most High God. Her legacy of love, faith, and selfless devotion stands as a testament to the profound impact of her relationship with God on all who knew her.
Angela was preceded in death by her father, Leon Preston, precious son, Dalvin Blanchard and grandson Jordan. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving husband of 45 years, her mother Dorothy Preston and her children; Lesley and Roy III (Shanatay). Her siblings Reginald Preston, Cynthia Teal (James), Shonice Reed and Ronald Preston (Towanna). Her precious grandchildren Dominique, Lezleigh (Diana), Addison, Imani, Adaunte, Amon, Roary, Joy, Jarian, Sanaa, Azusena, and Saadiq Ali, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
