Anthony Scott Muckelroy, affectionately known as “Coach Muck,” passed away on January 13, 2026, after a courageous four-year battle with brain cancer. Born in Houston, Texas, on May 20, 1966, Scott lived a life defined by faith, family, service, and an unwavering love for teaching and coaching young people.
Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dora Celeste Fleming and Wesley and Effie Ann Ratcliffe; his father, Merle Mayo Muckelroy; his mother, Colleen Ratcliffe Thornton; his brother, Ronald; and his sister, Sandra.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Annette Monks Muckelroy; his stepson, Blake Pellerin, and wife Sara; and his treasured grandchildren, Benjamin, Andrew, Madeline, and Sophia, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Ruth Monks; brothers-in-law Mike Monks and wife Mary, Pat Monks and wife Annette Dwyer, Steve Monks and wife Yvonne Lavalle, and Larry Monks and wife Celina; along with many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, and extended family members. Scott is also survived by his siblings Stephen Muckelroy and wife Betsy, Kristin Salak and husband Jeff, Renee Johnson and husband Rob, and their families.
Scott grew up in Houston and was known from an early age for his boundless energy and adventurous spirit—qualities that often led to trips to the emergency room for cuts, scrapes, and other mishaps. His siblings and their friends learned quickly never to lend Scott their bicycle, as it would inevitably return completely destroyed. That fearless, active nature stayed with him throughout his life.
Scott attended St. Thomas High School, where he excelled in football and track. His athletic achievements were later recognized when he was inducted into the St. Thomas High School Athletic Hall of Fame in April 2024—an honor he cherished deeply.
He continued his education at Stephen F. Austin State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology. As a scholarship athlete on the track team, Scott became a Division 1 All-American. His success on the track ultimately led him to compete at the highest level of sport as a member of the United States Bobsled Team for ten years, representing his country in the 1992 and 1994 Olympic Games.
Beyond athletics, Scott was an avid hunter, ranch owner, and skilled gun builder, pursuits that reflected his love of the outdoors and working with his hands.
Scott dedicated his professional life to education and coaching. After ten years of service in Cy-Fair ISD, he joined the faculty of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School in 2009. He remained there until August 2025, when his illness no longer allowed him to continue teaching. Scott absolutely loved St. Vincent de Paul and cared deeply for his students and the entire school community.
Coach Muck was a beloved teacher and coach, known for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and a unique ability to truly connect with children. Parents often shared that their kids would come home eager to tell the latest “Coach Muck stories” around the dinner table. Scott was always humbled and deeply touched by the love he received from the St. Vincent de Paul community. Former students returned year after year to visit him, and many stayed in contact well beyond their school years—even after college—testament to the lasting impact he had on their lives.
Scott’s legacy lives on through the countless students he taught, coached, encouraged, and inspired, and through the family he loved so fiercely.
