Barbara Ruth Gehring

Barbara Ruth Gehring, 79, of Houston, TX, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, in the company of loved ones. Barbara was born on January 9, 1946, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Jack Stickel Goodrich and Virginia Grace Larsen.

Barbara earned her nursing degree and worked as a psychiatric nurse for a number of years. Her love of travel led her to many destinations around the world, experiencing life in various international locations before settling down. It was during this time that she met her late ex-husband, Douglas Frederick Gehring. Together, they started a family in Virginia and eventually moved to Central Florida, where they ran a small business for over 25 years while raising their two sons and many beautiful dogs.

Barbara was preceded in death by Douglas, the father of her two sons, David Ryan Gehring of Houston, TX, and Andrew Scott Gehring of Denver, CO. She is also survived by her three grandsons, Ethan Nicholas, Gavin Robert, and Nolan Ryan, from David and his wife, Alanna; her grandson, Grant West, and granddaughter, Sierra Eve, from Andrew and his wife, Michaela; her two large Newfoundlands, Newton and Bentley, and her beloved Old English Sheepdog, Barclay.

A private service will be held by the family in her memory. Barbara will always be remembered for her love of travel, worldly cuisines, reading, dogs, and doing things her way.
