Betty was born February 5, 1926 to Annie Mae and Peyton Randolph Read Jr. in Arcadia, Florida.
While working in her father’s restaurant she met the love of her life William Daniels from East Texas. William worked for Humble Oil and worked on the crews in the Everglades. He returned to Texas and she thought she would never see him again.
He came back to Florida with his mother and Aunt Lona to meet her family and proposed marriage after the families met. William brought her back to Texas where they were married on October 18, 1947 in the living room of his parent’s home in Tatum, Texas.
After moving 28 times in 7 years they settled in Spring Branch and bought their first and last home in 1955. They had 2 beautiful children, Randy and Cheryl.
William worked for Humble Oil/ Exxon for 43 years and Betty was a housewife and mother all those years. They were married forty-three years until William passed away in 1989. Betty continued to live in her home until her death.
Betty enjoyed her grandchildren, friends, church, working in the yard and was an accomplished oil painter.
She is survived by her son William R. Daniels and wife Beall, daughter Cheryl Ann Schoonover and husband Stephen, grandchildren Michael Daniels and wife Tamra, Shauna Joseph and husband Scott, Veronica Kelly and husband Dennis, and Scott Schoonover and wife Ashley, sisters Margie Johnson and Patricia Mauldin of Florida and numerous nephews and nieces.
Family and friends will gather and share memories during a visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 6, in the chapel of Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, where funeral services will be led at 2:00 p.m. by Reverend Robert "Bob" Luton. Graveside services and interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, also in Houston.
