Bob Bond of Houston, Texas, went to be with the Lord on December 7, 2019. He was born in Mississippi in 1935 and grew up on the Bond dairy farm alongside his three brothers, 1 sister, and 4 cousins. After his time of service in the U.S. Air Force, Bob moved to Houston to be with Cathie, his bride of 61 years.
While raising their four children, Bob obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Houston. After an 18-year career with Associated Credit Services, he launched his own business, United Check Control, where he dedicated the next 21 years of his life. Bob had the privilege of working alongside a number of his family members during those 21 years, and all of the employees were like family to him. Bob was particularly good at celebrating the milestones of the company’s success, and letting the employees know the company’s success was possible because of them.
With 84 years of life, there are many deeply treasured memories. Bob will always be remembered for his joyful disposition and his kind heart. Family meant a great deal to Bob, and he was a good listener. When you would share good news with Bob, he would respond “faaaantastic” in a very encouraging way, and you knew he was genuinely excited for you. From Bob’s perspective, most things in life could be described as “mighty fine.” Those are some mighty fine shoes you are wearing. That’s a mighty fine job you did on your project. This is some mighty fine weather we’re having.
Bob is preceded in death by his sister and her husband, Tempie and Wesley Williams. He is survived by his wife Cathie, his children and their spouses: Sandy and Scott Schultz, Lisa and Mike Robbins, Mark and Debra Bond, and James Scott Bond; his grandchildren and their spouses: Angela and Tommy Mattix, Mike Schultz, Allyson Bond, Valerie and Matt Neff, Kathryn and Chad Darneal, Kelly and Dillon Layman, James Travis Bond, Samantha and Nathan Barnes, and Becca Bond; and his great grandchildren: Bridget, Colleen, Kate, Jacob, Grayson, and Steele. He is also survived by his three brothers and their spouses: T. W. and Glenda Bond, John and Inez Bond, and Joe and Beverly Bond, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 16 from 9:30am until 11am. A funeral service will follow, beginning at 11am. After the service, there will be a reception for family and friends to gather and have lunch in the reception hall at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.
