Carolina Paez de Castillo, 92, passed away peacefully in her home on February 11, 2016. She is preceded by her husband Sergio A Castillo Sr, daughter Carolina Neidinger, grandson Tony Castillo and five of her siblings (Antonio, Francisca, Valdemar, Ofelia and Homero). She is survived by her sister Anita, her beloved children (Sergio Castillo Jr & wife Cheryl, Ernesto Castillo, Blanca Castillo, and Eric Neidinger), her grandchildren (Andrew, Anthony, Scott, Jonathan, Katie, Emily, Michael, and Vannesa,), and great grandchildren (Hina, Ava and Jack).
Born on June 2, 1923 in Santa Rosa, Nuevo León, Mexico, Carolina was the third of seven children. She moved to Monterrey as a young adult after finishing junior high school to work as a teacher’s aide, then later worked in Casa Blanca bridal shop in Monterrey where she did alterations. She had learned to sew and embroider at an early age. She later worked in a factory where she met Sergio and married after a four year courtship. In 1963 the family, now with four children, moved to Houston to start a new chapter in their lives.
Carolina was a devoted mother and housewife. She was a great cook who enjoyed the company of her children on Sundays for lunch or dinner. Her doors were always open. She enjoyed singing and would be asked to sing in gatherings of family and close friends. In her later years you would find her embroidering and singing her favorite old songs. She devoted her life to her children and family as this was her up-bringing. Carolina was raised on a farm and enjoyed that era of her life as she would recall those times quite frequently to share her memories.
Carolina was a beautiful woman and lovingly fulfilled her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed immensely for her joy, her love, her character, her uniqueness and her strong will.
Rest in peace Carolina. We are blessed to have been so loved by you. We will love and miss you until we are together again.
