Cecilia Elizabeth Agamy Dobelmann, also known as, Cecilia Ross, was 83. A long-time resident of Houston, Cecilia passed away with family nearby on September 24, 2025, at Memorial Hermann Hospital after a long battle with heart failure.
Cecilia was born January 11, 1942, in Joliet, Illinois at St. Joseph Hospital.
She married Ray Dobelmann in December of 1960, in Braidwood, Illinois. They had six children together before divorcing.
Cecilia earned an associate’s degree in fine arts from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Later, she attained an associate’s degree in occupational therapy from Houston Community College. Additionally, Cecilia studied baking. She earned Culinary Arts and Patisserie certificates.
Over the years, Cecilia followed many creative pursuits. One of her favorites was working at the Houston Zoo as an illustrator doing black and white pointillism drawings of the animals. Cecilia was an artist at heart, and her business endeavors reflected that. First and foremost, she was an entrepreneur. Her ancestors were immigrants who started their own businesses, and they were a great inspiration to her. In 1982, she opened a boutique in Highland Village called Conceits. In it, she curated artistic wearables and designed and made formal custom fashions. In 1990, Conceits incorporated and made wholesale jewelry. Cecilia loved fashion, and was an avid collector of beads, buttons and related items. She made Native American style bead work and designed many beautiful woven beaded pieces. Cecilia was a great baker, a chocolatier, and an adventurous cook. She especially enjoyed making Southern, French, Middle Eastern, and Italian style cuisine. She did light catering and made beautiful wedding cakes for family and friends. Cecila loved sharing good food, and she was the “go-to” for family and friends seeking advice about making and serving food.
Cecilia was preceded in death by her parents, John Russell Agamy and Margaretta Mildred Mortimer Agamy, and her sons, John Russell and Russell Eric Dobelmann.
She is survived by her sister, Janet Slowinsky; daughters, Alicia Church and Therese Baker; sons, Daniel Dobelmann and Christian Dobelmann; and grandchildren, Taylor Dobelmann, Sabrina Huning, Dylan Baker, Shelby Baker, Daniel Ray Dobelmann, Lena Dobelmann, John Dobelmann, and Rainer Dobelmann.
We celebrate her life as a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend.
A memorial service will be held at the Heights Funeral Home in Houston, Texas on October 25, at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m.
A funeral service will take place at a future date in Braidwood, Illinois so Cecilia can be laid to rest with her grandparents, parents, and firstborn.
Cecilia loved donating to the arts, musical talent, those battling addictions, women’s shelter, and animal shelters. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to an above charity in her name.
