Charles Herman Meyer, Jr. was called home on January 28, 2020 at the wonderful age of 95. Charlie was born to Charles and Elzina on October 1, 1924 in the Heights of Houston, Texas where he lived for 80 years. He then moved to Tomball, Texas where he completed his time here on earth.
In 1942 Charlie enlisted in the US Marine Corp where he served as a flying mechanic in the South Pacific in WWII. When Charlie would tell stories of his time in the service, he would always talk about picking up lobster for the officers. Charlie loved to eat. He returned home to marry his love, Billie Mai. Charlie and Billie bought a house a few blocks from their parents in the Heights where they spent 58 years raising 3 boys and watching their grandchildren play. Charlie worked for Southern Engraving from the time he got out of the service until he retired at 65. After he retired he continued engraving from his garage workshop until his hands would no longer let him. His engravings were true works of art. He even engraved the 50th Wedding Anniversary invitation for his and Billie’s celebration. When not busy engraving, Charlie loved to spend time at their bay house in Sargent, Texas. There were many weekends, summers and retirement days spent out in his boat catching fish. After moving to Tomball, Charlie loved to sit on the back porch and watch the wildlife, work in his garden, pick fruit from the trees and watch his best friend, Baby, play. He loved to drive the riding mower or his scooter down the street and visit with the neighbors as he took Baby for a “walk”. Charlie always looked forward to holidays when all the family would gather and of course there was lots of food. He spent his final days at the Heights of Tomball where he became friends with many of his sweet caregivers.
Charlie was met at the gates of Heaven by his mother, Elzina, father, Charles and wife, Billie. He is survived by sons Ray Meyer (Janet), Wayne Meyer (Sheila), Keith Meyer; his sisters Gloria Breazeale and Ruth Lawther (Milton). Charlie was blessed with 8 grandchildren, Brent (Susan), Grant (Tamara), Audrey, Ashley (Cody), Trey, Alan (Rose), Timothy, Melissa; and 9 great-grandchildren, Jessie, Logan, Cash, Sunday, Caleb, Chloe, Colten, Cameron and Caden.
