

Clarence Marvin Mitschke, age 74, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday March 31, 2018, surrounded by his family. From his birth on July 6, 1943 in Houston, TX he continued to be a servant of our Lord, a father figure to many, an opa to his grandchildren, and a friend and supporter to countless others.
Clarence was the son of Alvin Mitschke and Minnie Schneider Mitschke. He grew up in the Heights and attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he was baptized. He went on to attend Reagan High School and also University of Houston. He worked several jobs until he made his career selling life insurance with CUNA Mutual (Lutheran Mutual Life) where he was a manager in the Houston office. He eventually retired at age 62, but after a few years went back to work for A-Athletic (Alert Services) until his death.
Even though he was a hard worker, his ultimate devotion was to his family. Clarence was married to his loving wife Carolyn Hobratschk Mitschke on May 9, 1964 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings, TX. Together they were blessed with three daughters, Lisa Jahn, Kristie Mitschke, and Rhonda Wood. Later came son-in-laws, Tim Jahn and Wade Wood, and most importantly his grandchildren, Chandler and Brandon Jahn, and Haley Evan and Tyler Wood. His favorite pastime was spending time with the family at the farm in Giddings and tending to the cattle, fishing, and bar-b-queing,
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Minnie Mitschke; sister, Florence Scruggs; brother-in-law Alton Hengst and nephew, Scott Mitschke. He is survived by his beloved wife, daughters, son-in-laws and grandchildren, along with brothers and sister, Harvey, Ken, Caroline, and Leonard as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services to be held Thursday April 5, 2018 at Our Savior Lutheran Church 5000 W. Tidwell, Houston, TX 77091 at 10:00am followed by burial services at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery at 13102 N. Freeway, Houston, TX 77060. Viewing will be on Wednesday April 4th 2018 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church.
