The Fall of 1979.  Jo Ellen and I were getting married and buying a house.  Not only did I make the right decision in marrying Jo Ellen, but we made the right decision in moving where the Mitschkes would be our neighbors.

Clarence and Carolyn and the girls took us in as their own.  From fishing trips with Carolyn's mother and our sons, to picnics in Serbin, to picking grape leaves on the side of the road to make pickles with.  Food, there was always food.  There was always laughter.  There was always love and respect and understanding.  There were Christmas parties and Forth of July fireworks.  There were trips to lake houses and trips to the farm.  There were things you could trust and things you could count on.  There was Clarence and Carolyn.

Clarence was a friend; a brother; an extra dad; an extra granddad.  He was someone you could count on and that is more uncommon than common these days.

Clarence will be remembered.  Clarence will be missed.

I think I saw more men with misty eyes at his service than women.  He was that kind of guy.  A true friend.

Carolyn and family,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.   I had the joy and privilege of working with Clarence over several years.   Although I never had the opportunity to meet him in person, I spoke with him by phone on many occasions and always thought of him as not only a co-worker but a friend.   He was never in a rush when he called the CUNA Mutual  office and always had a story to share.  I will always remember his kindness and compassion for helping others.  Take care and God Bless!

I remember a lot of good memories of my Uncle Clarence dating back when I sat on his lap as Santa  to the time I helped pull cactus on their land and lastly talking to him this past Christmas. He will be missed  but he won't be forgotten.

We purchased a home across the street from the Mitschke’s a year ago. One of the first memories I have of what would be our new neighborhood is meeting Ms. Carolyn who was sitting outside gardening while I waited for our realtor to give me a tour of the house.  I didn’t know then that the woman I was greeting would soon be one of our dearest neighbors.

Before long, we also had the privilege to meet Clarence M. Mitschke or as we liked to refer to him, Mr. Clarence. In one year, we grew very fond of the Mitschke's.

I am grateful to have met Clarence. Here are just a few remarks about the lovely man I knew him to be:

Mr. Clarence was generous. He was a hard-working man and had tremendous energy. He was very dutiful about going to work and to church. He was very devoted to Ms. Carolyn. Mr. Clarence was a gentleman. He was proud of his daughters and spoke about them with reverence. 

He invited our family to the Mitschke farm in Giddings, TX. We had every intention of enjoying a weekend in his company. He'd often walk across the street and share stories with us about his weekends there.

The sweetest memory I have of Mr. Clarence is one I captured by chance while looking out of my kitchen window. This memory speaks to how loving a grandfather he was. The scene I witnessed appeared to be one in which he and his grandson had just gotten back after having spent the weekend at the farm.  I believe his grandson is in his late-teens, but as his parents drove him away, he hung out the window watching his grandparents like one would imagine a small boy who already missed his grandpa and grandma might do. It deeply touched my heart. 

Our deepest condolences to all of the Mitschke family. The Reyes family will greatly miss our beloved neighbor.

On behalf of my family and Alert Services, we are deeply saddened  by the sudden passing of Clarence.  He was a very kind and generous man with a wonderful heart.  He will be missed by all.  We wish all of his friends and family comfort during this difficult time.

I was so saddened to learn of my friend's too soon passing.  Clarence and I go back about 65 years having attended all of grade school together.  Later, as we both began families, we enjoyed countless evenings at each other's home, dining , and almost always culminating in a rousing game of Texas 42.
My heart goes out to Carolyn and his beloved daughters.
Rest in peace old friend!

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time.  We will miss Clarence here at Alert Services.  
May God be with all of you during this difficult time. He was always friendly, happy and willing to help!

My heart was sad to hear of his passing. I am blessed to have grown up with him and your family throughout the years. He treated my sisters and I as if we were his own daughters. He made the best breakfasts throughout the many sleepovers we had during our early years. Your parents took time to attend my family's many celebrations these past several years and I am grateful for every visit. Clarence will always hold a special place in my heart and will be missed. Thanks for the memories and for sharing him with so many. May God be with you in the days, weeks and months ahead. Hugs to each of you.
