

March 20, 1931, a baby girl was born to Robert and Annie Thomas. Cleo Thomas Smith was the youngest of five children. As a child, she was raised Methodist and was a member of Waymen Chapel AME Methodist Church. Mrs. Smith attended 23rd Avenue. harper Jr. High, Booker T. Washington High School, Houston Community College and Texas Southern University. She later became a great educator and taught children in the local school districts. On May 31, 1963 Cleo married Rev. Chester Smith, Sr. She had 3 children; Drexel Thomas, Chester Smith, Jr., and Derek Thomas.In continuation of her devotion to Christianity. Sister Smith united with Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and was baptized under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Carrington. Very active in the church, she was President of The Good Cheer Ministry, a member of the Esther Circle Minister and Deacon Wives Auxiliary, choir member and a vacation bible school teacher.May 2, 2017, Sister Smith was called home to serve God by his side. She is preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Annie Thomas, husband: Rev. Chester Smith Sr. and siblings: Leroy, Louise, Robert and Adeline Thomas. Here to cherish her memories are her children Drexel, Charles Jr., Derek Thomas, and daughter in law: Tina Thomas. Grandchildren: Derek Smith, great grandchildren: Elijah Dante Smith, Micah Dante Smith, Joshua Dante Smith and Sarai Danielle Smith and step grandchildren: Ta'Kasia Batts, William Satterfield Jr., Larrincia Volcy, Tracina Cash, Tracye Cash Jr., and a host of family and friends.
