Donald was born on March 24, 1933, in Houston, Texas, to William Henry and Anita Beckman DeLany. He graduated from Reagan High School and, on September 22, 1956, married his high school sweetheart, Patsy Ruth Reinhardt. They made their home in Houston for 66 years, raising four children together.
He worked at Cameron Ironworks for 37 years before retiring to spend his time doing what he loved most.
Donald is survived by his children Roland DeLany, Cheryl DeLany, Sharon DeLany-Roper, and Sheri DeLany Pitcher; ten grandchildren—Brandon, Justin, Ashley, Colton, Amanda, Cameron, Brittany, Taylor, Karli—and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patsy DeLany; sons-in-law Fred Pitcher and Steve Roper; his parents Anita and William DeLany; and his brother, William Henry DeLany Jr.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Donald enlisted after high school and served during the Korean War. He had a deep love for the outdoors—hunting, fishing, working in the yard, and grilling for his family brought him great joy. A passionate gun collector, he also enjoyed frequent trips to the shooting range.
Donald and Patsy were lifelong fans of Houston sports, especially the Houston Texans and Oilers. They held season tickets to the Oilers for many years and were devoted “Luv Ya Blue” supporters. They also cheered on the Rockets and Astros with pride.
Don will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, big hugs, contagious smile, and loving spirit.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM, with a committal service at 1:00 PM.
