Dorothy Inez Vinson Green

Dorothy was born May 25, 1921 in Abilene, TX to Robert Lee and Charles Lee Vinson. She was raised on the family farm along with her two brothers, Billy and Junior. Billy had a skinny friend by the name of Jack Allen Green. Jack and Dorothy were married August 20, 1944 and shared 60 years together before he passed away in October 2004.

Dorothy graduated from Abilene Christian College with a degree in Home Economics. Never a gourmet cook, her baked pinto beans and chocolate chip cookies are still remembered by family and friends alike.

Dorothy moved the family each time Jack got a promotion; first to Ft. Worth, then on to San Antonio and finally to Houston in 1962. Dorothy worked for the SBISD in the Wilchester Elementary school Cafeteria for many years. She was a Girl Scout leader and a faithful member of the Bellaire Church of Christ for over 40 years.

In Jack and Dorothy’s later years, they were delighted to become the primary daycare providers for their great-granddaughters, Victoria and Chloe Gomez.

After Dorothy’s health started failing, she was moved to Rockport to be near her daughter, Charlene, where, as her health permitted, she attended Bent Oaks Church of Christ. Words cannot express our gratitude to the staff of Gulf Pointe Village Assisted Living for the loving care they provided our mother.

She is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Charlene and David Coward, Darlene and George Prochaska; grandchildren: Wendy and Martin Gomez and their daughters Victoria and Chloe; Chris Coward and his children Garrett, Brianna, Vallerie and Jordan; Lauren and Wes Mitchell; Austin Prochaska and fiancee Craig Birkenfield; Adrienne Prochaska and Allison Prochaska and many friends and neighbors

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, where funeral services will be held in the chapel at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Garden of Memories.
