On May 12, 1928, a baby girl was born to Eddie and Addie Lee Farmer Grant in Brenham, Texas. They named the precious one, Eddie Mae, and she was their only child. Eddie Mae attended Brenham grade schools and graduated from Pickard High School in 1945. She pursued higher education at Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas and majored in Home Economics. Later in life, Eddie Mae attended Houston Community College to learn office skills. Eddie Mae met and married Willie Watts, Jr. of Brenham, TX in 1947 and to this union three daughters were born – Brenda, Barbara, and Addie. When they first moved to Houston, TX, they worked in the laundry industry together. After their divorce, Eddie Mae raised her daughters and worked in private homes. Eddie Mae confessed to Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was baptized in Brenham. In her adulthood, Sis. Eddie Mae made Houston, Texas her home. She was a faithful and humble servant as a former member of East Orange A.M.E. Church, First Fontaine Baptist Church, and Willing Workers Baptist Church. Sis. Eddie Mae attended Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and this became her church home. Sis. Eddie Mae attended and served faithfully until her health declined. Her faith in God never wavered and even in her weakest moments, she continued to speak of God’s grace and mercy. Sis. Eddie Mae was an active member of the Pathfinders, Lights of Zion, The Trail Blazers, Ladies Ministry, Sunday School and Bible Study at Mt. Zion. Sis. Eddie Mae was affectionately fond of her Christian friends, Pastor Edward Victor Lightfoot, and former pastor, Rev. Dr. James Lightfoot. She often reflected about the heartfelt warmth and kindness extended to her by Pastor Lightfoot and First Lady Carolyn and the various church organizations. Sis. Eddie Mae Watts entered into eternal rest on April 30, 2019. She was thirteen days shy of her 91st birthday. She will be greatly missed by her family, relatives, neighbors, friends and everyone whose life she touched. Sis. Eddie Mae is preceded in death by her parents, Eddie and Addie Lee Grant, her aunt, Olivia Aldridge, and her daughter, Brenda Watts Carter. She leaves to cherish her memories her daughters, Barbara Watts Golden and Addie Watts Vester and a son-in-law, Harry Carter. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Heath (Renee) Vester, Kimberlee (Quinton) Marshall, Brandon Carter and Leland Golden; four great-grandchildren, Qualee Marshall, Quaiden Marshall, Kendle Henigan-Golden, and Blake Golden; and a host of loving relatives and devoted friends.
