

Edward Stephen "Quig" Quigley was born in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday, the 7th of October 1920, to Joseph Stephen and Mabel V. (Cameron) Quigley. He passed away in Houston, Texas on Tuesday, the 6th of December 2011, at the age of 91.
In his early years, Quig was known as Stephen Ward whose dance band played all over the East Coast.
Quig enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps on the 10th of April 1941, and was stationed at Hickam Field, Hawaii on the 7th of December of that year. He was promoted through the ranks to Master Sergeant. Quig received a direct commission to the Air Force Reserve in 1948, and received a regular Air Force Commission in 1958.
Quig completed the Air University Courses, Squadron Office School, Staff Command School, Air and War College and the Mobilization Course offered by Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
Quig served in the Continental United States, South Pacific, Brazil, Japan, Korea and Columbia, with Command assignments in the Commission Tactical Air Command, Air Defense Command, USA Mission to Columbia and the Strategic Air Command.
Having received one Army Commendation Medal and two Air Force Commendation Medals, Quig retired from the Air Force in 1967.
After his military career, Quig worked with NASA on the Lunar Module Project from 1968 to 1969. Later that year, he joined Southern National Bank and retired in 1986.
Quig was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vera daCunha Quigley, in 1990. He is survived by a loving family, his daughter, Denise Quigley Lyons, and his grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Lyons, Cameron Stephen Lyons and Michael Patrick Lyons.
Family and friends gathered at a graveside service conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars District 4 Honor Guard and Reverend M. Eugene Vickrey, at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive in Houston, 77038, on Thursday, the 15th of December at two o'clock in the afternoon.
Floral tributes at Houston National Cemetery are very limited, so in lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions in Quigs name be directed to the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, Attn: Volunteer Office, 2002 Holcombe Blvd. Houston, Texas 77030, (713) 794-7135.
