I’m happy to remember my dear friend Elaine Marques. I know she is reunited with Henicy and resting safely in the arms of our Savior.
I remember every day as I see  so much of her beautiful needle point in my home. I was blessed to have known her.

Shelley, Barry, Jordan and your  family  are in my thoughts and prayers.  I  enjoyed my phone  visits with Elaine so much. We always had a lot to talk about. We shared our German heritage and our family  members arriving to Texas.  I love my sweet kitchen hand towel with her pretty handwork that she made me. I will honor Ms Elaine each Christmas making her Chocolate peanut clusters.

Miss Elaine was one of the sweetest ladies I have ever known.   She was so smart and alert for her long life.   We came to see her in Texas and then see came to see us in Virginia several times.   We  enjoyed talking to her and she helped me with my embroidery.   I have several pictures she embroidered for me hanging in my dining room.   It was such a pleasure to know her and we will miss her visits.

I met Mrs. Marques 40 years ago when I was a Freshman at The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts through Ms. Patricia Bonner. For some reason she took a liking to me and whenever I performed at the school  she was there and made a point to talk with me after the performances. I introduced her to my Mother and they'd talk when they saw each other because she didn't forget a face. She'd tell me me after performances, "I saw your Mom and spoke to her." I graduated and went back two years later and worked at the school with the Vocal and Theatre Departments and Ms. Bonner would tell her I'd diercted a show, or choreographed a concert or I was singing and she'd be there. She also followed me professionally performing around the city. In later years when we didn't see each other we'd both tell Ms. Bonner to let the other know we'd ask about one another. I am convinced she was a fan of mine. (Smile) Her spirit with me from day one was 'Angelic' and she gave the best hugs. To her family and those who knew her, I say I know she'll be missed, but look at the legacy she's left behind. I know there will be tears shed because she's no longer here, but she's resting and smiling at all the memories she left us with. May God give you Peace and be a Comforter to you in these days. Instead of saying Goodbye. I'll just say, 'See you later.'

Elaine moved to our block about the same time I retired.  I looked forward to visiting her almost every day until Covid and then my own health problems prevented it.  I have many fond memories of her.  Perhaps my favorite was her house full of shirts for an annual fun run we put on where she folded every one for years.  She was a remarkable person and a role model.

I will miss our decades long friendship even though we did not talk much during the past two.  We both were contending with our lives changing, etc., but I always held Elaine close to my heart and included her in my prayers.  Long ago we shared so much together, birthday lunches, wedding receptions at St. Paul's Episcopal Church -Houston, and all the dinners, etc. we shared with our husbands various Lion's Club activities.  Her positive attitude and mental sharpness as she aged always amazed me.  She also did such beautiful handwork and pleased her many friends with memorable gifts that she had created. Sympathy to her family, but thankful for her love and guidance during her lifetime.  She will be missed.

Shelley, Barry, and Jordan you are in my thoughts and prayers. Ms. Elaine was a dear, precious, remarkable lady. Her zest for life and talents were unending. She was a shining example of aging gracefully and living each day to the fullest.

Elaine was my next door neighbor for almost 20 years  when I lived at the Glenbrook Valley Townhouses.  She greeted me so enthusiastically when I moved in, and she was my "go to" person for package deliveries  and my house  watcher when I was on my many, many trips around the country and the world.     I continue to enjoy the various needlepoint towels and wall hangings and pictures she gifted me over the years.
At the High School for the performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) where I taught in the music department, our annual fundraiser was the October Spaghetti Supper.  Each family was asked to make one or two batches of spaghetti from the same recipe to serve at the supper.  Because my time was so limited (and because I'm not really a cook), Elaine volunteered to make my batches of spaghetti each year.  She also made cakes to donate to the bake sale at the supper.  She was a true friend, and she and Henicy enjoyed attending so many of the performances at the school.
May she rest in peace as she joins her beloved husband in the presence of the Lord.
