Esther was born in Houston, Texas on January 27, 1924. She was married to Joe Pete Martin on November 26, 1946. They were married for 29 ½ years.
She was a life-long resident of Houston where she attended Trinity Lutheran School, Garden Villas School, and Milby High School. Many of her years in Houston were lived in the Minnetex area in the south part of Houston.
Esther was a loving wife and mother. She also worked as an office girl at Peden Iron and Steel Company and cleaned houses. She was an active member of her church until her health kept her homebound. She loved God with all of her heart, soul, mind, and strength. Esther always had a smile and encouraging words to share with others.
Her husband, five brothers and three sisters precede Esther in death.
Esther is survived by one sister, Mildred Irene Oldham of Houston, Texas, one brother, Fred W. Stoerkel and wife Ruth Ann of Houston, Texas; one son, Joseph Pete Martin Jr. and wife Melinda of Spring, TX; three grandsons, Joseph Martin III and wife Ashley of Vermont, Charles Robert Martin of Pasadena, TX and Justin Kyle Martin of Pasadena, TX; nephew Lowel Freeman Jones of Bryan, TX, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Forest Park Lawndale from 5:00-8:00 pm on Thursday, April 12, 2018. The funeral service will be held at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pearland at 11:00 on Friday, April 13, 2018. There will be a reception at the church after the service. Friends and family are then invited to her graveside service at South Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Epiphany Lutheran Church in Pearland, Texas, YWCA Meals on Wheels, or charity of your choice.
