Maurine was married to the love of her life, ‘Mutt’ Charles Edward Shane for sixty-nine years. She missed him dearly and has looked forward to the day when she would join him again at their eternal home in heaven.
Maurine is survived by her children, Bob Shane and his wife Cindy, Tommy Shane and his wife June, Judy Gaenslen and her husband Gerald, her brothers Albert Alldredge and his wife Mary, and Charles Alldredge and his wife Janie, her sister ‘Tootsie’ Virginia Levee and brother-in-law Charlie Claude Shane. She also left behind nine grandchildren Lee Snyder, Sheri Spedale, Tiffany Charlie, Kimberly Easton, Rob Shane, Sherry Berg, Mark Shane, Joshua Shane, and Caleb Shane. She is also survived by 14 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Mutt Shane, her loving husband, her daughter, Martha Moreland, and her sister Evelyn Baze.
Maurine lived a life filled with love of family and friends. There was always someone from the family or the friends at church stopping by for a piece of pie and a cup of coffee, seems like there was always pie and coffee. She was a wonderful cook, she loved cooking fresh vegetables from the garden. She had a beautiful voice and sang solos at the church and also played the piano beautifully. When she was only 90 years young, she sat down at the piano at her home with the Baptist Hymnal and started playing from page one, and just kept playing and turning the pages, playing one hymn after another. Many didn’t know that she could sew, they didn’t know because the clothes she made looked like they were professionally tailored.
Maurine was talented and an adventurist as well. She could shoot a deer as well as anyone, and was skilled at reeling in Bass and Speckled Trout. She loved to travel whether it was going to visit family or venturing across the Unites States, or flying to Europe. Maurine shared these adventures with Mutt, and oh, she missed him dearly when he died. During those travels across the country, she never met a stranger. She would make friends, often exchanging addresses and phone numbers, with many of those she met. In her later years she was excited about seeing new things and loved gazing at the clouds. She would often comment on the clouds the moment she stepped outdoors.
She loved the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, time to share with family and friends, to break bread together, to laugh, to cry, and no one can forget playing cards or 42 with her! This past Christmas she beat her children playing Liverpool Rummy!
She was a wonderful mother as well, she stayed in touch with all of her children through the years. She was always there, but never too much, seemed like she knew exactly when to be present and when to be absent. She was mom to sons and daughters in law, and she was always there for her grandchildren, her children’s friends and all of the nieces and nephews. She was always willing to help with any project too. Oh, she could paint, yes, she’d paint the walls and ceiling, but she was an artist also. She painted several landscapes and stills that her children are enjoying.
She was never one to pass up ice cream or a good Margarita! She lived a life that wasn’t all fun and roses, but she lived in Christ and she put her faith in His will to lead the way.
Her life was a living example of a favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
Maurine was a charter member of Aldine Baptist Church, a Librarian for Houston Public Library and Aldine Baptist Church, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and The National Cowboy Hall of Fame.
