Evangeline L. Varela 83 of Houston passed away Friday, November 1, 2013. She was born in Houston December 19, 1929, to Santiago and Filomena Laredo. Retired Librarian for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston, Evangeline enjoyed traveling with family, music, volunteering and teaching. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband of 56 years Joe G. Varela, Sr., and grandson Phillip Matthew Varela. Evangeline is survived by her six children; Anna Galindo (Gilbert), Dolores Varela, Joe Varela, Jr. (Carol), Arthur Varela (Annette), Catherine Perez (Alfonso), Christopher Varela (Imelda), one brother Emmanuel Laredo, 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren many nephews and nieces. The family will receive visitors Tuesday November 5, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Forest Park Lawndale. Mass of Resurrection will be Wednesday November 6, 2013 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 7250 Harrisburg Blvd. Houston, Tx 77011. Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park Cemetery.
