

Fred was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Noma Spencer Schmidt and is survived by six daughters: Patricia and Ron Logan, Cynthia and Dave Wadyka, Christine and Steve Kloc, Karen Terrando, Janet Gonzales, Leanne Schmidt, nine grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Maxine Hughes, brothers Richard Schmidt and Paul and Connie Schmidt and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy, Fred graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Electrical Engineering while working at The Light Company. While employed there, he met and later married Noma Spencer. After earning his degree he went on to spend 35 years with Tennessee Gas Pipeline Group as a Chief Engineer, retiring in 1988.
Fred enjoyed tinkering in his garage, loved music and later found a passion for ballroom dancing where he forged many new and meaningful friendships. Fred was a vibrant force who touched many lives and will be dearly missed.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, where funeral services will be held in the chapel at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 3rd. Reverend M. Eugene Vickrey will officiate. Immediately following, graveside services and interment will conclude at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
