January 17, 1954 – October 24, 2014
Gary Mills Renick was born in Biloxi, Mississippi and was a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi, class of 1982. He moved to Texas in 1984 and became an “honorary” Texan. Gary married his lovely wife, Kim Harris Renick, on November 13, 1993. Nineteen years later he said, “the best thing in my life happened” on that day. They were blessed with almost 21 years together.
He was a gracious father of two amazing children, Madison Renick, born November 18, 1994 and Eli Renick, born January 6, 1996. In the words of his children:
“He was a man of artistry, often looking towards nature for inspiration for his many drawings. Often drawing flowers, he believed that beauty was everywhere, even in the simplest concepts.
He taught his way of seeing the world to his daughter, Madison. Handing down a cornucopia of artistic ability, Madison often remarks that if it was not for him, her passions would have been skewed in a far different direction, and is so very grateful for the talent he shared.
Another passion Gary often proudly demonstrated was his passion for his children. He took great pride in fatherhood, and did everything he could to show his love for them. He gave fun cooking lessons to them, participated in intense ‘Dart Wars’, often playing the role of antagonist, and even risked uneven terrain to give his son the experience of the classic ‘Game of Catch’ – a timeless game shared between Father and Son. Even when ill or in pain, he went the extra mile to show his children that he cared, and that they mattered.”
His main career was as a Mechanical Engineer, but he was also a staunch proponent of the American Disabilities Act and devoted much time and effort to ensure that the public was aware of the needs for so many disabled individuals.
Gary was very actively involved with his Church Family at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring TX. He was much loved and a friend to many. He will be greatly missed!
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Margaret Renick, father, David Alan Renick and brother, James Frederick Alley.
He is survived by his wife Kim, children Madison and Eli, siblings Charmaine Harris and husband Dale, Mark E. Alley and wife Rachel, David A. Renick and Richard O. Renick and wife Sharon.
Before his passing when they talked about meeting again in Heaven, he told his beautiful wife Kim, "I will be the tall one in the corner!"
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 3, 2014 at Faith United Methodist Church, 2403 Rayford Rd., Conroe, Texas 77386.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the educational fund for his children: Madison and Eli Renick; at any Woodforest National Bank, re: The Kimberly Renick Benefit Fund - account ending in 3005.
