

Gean F. (David) Yeang, 90 years old, passed away peacefully in his home on April 30, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Gean was born in Iowa City, Iowa to Yea Gay and Sui King Fong Yeang and later grew up in Kaiping, Guangdong, China before returning to the United States.
He met the love of his life, Lai Jean, at social get-togethers such as bowling and picnics. They married in August 1961 and were blessed with 58 years of marriage before her passing in 2020. Together they enjoyed raising four children, sons Glenn and Sherman and twin daughters, Cindy and Susan. In 1967 they opened David’s Food Center where they worked side by side for 25 years and serviced loyal customers in the north Houston area.
Upon retirement, they had many opportunities to travel abroad and enjoy life. Once his grandchildren were born, Andrew, Brian, Connor and Dylan, his greatest joy was being a grandfather and attending their many sporting events to support them. He was an avid fisherman and one of his greatest talents and hobbies was photography and the use and collection of many types of cameras including Leica, Mamiya, Hasselblad and Canon. He built his own dark room in his home to where he learned how to develop his own film and photos and loved to set up a studio with various backdrops to take family portraits. He was a wizard at playing mah jong, Chinese chess and bingo. He also had the love of playing many Chinese instruments such as the dulcimer, flutes and many stringed musical instruments and participated in weekly Chinese music classes. He resided at StoneCreek of Copperfield Senior Living for a year and a half where he met many new friends, participated in activities and was well loved and taken care of by the community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Yea Gay and Sui King Fong Yeang, his beloved wife, Lai Jean, sister Betty Lee (Sai), and son Glenn Yeang.
He is survived by son Sherman Yeang (Debra), daughters Cindy Tam (Albert) and Susan Cole (Lawrence), daughter-in-law Nina Yeang, grandchildren Andrew Yeang (Caleb), Brian Yeang (Jennifer), Connor Yeang (fiancée Karen), and Dylan Yeang, brother, Genn Yeang (Annie), and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on May 5, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Chapel Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. and Graveside Service to follow directly thereafter. Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060.
