Gladys "Memaw" M. Guenther

Born on April 2, 1927 in Weimar, TX to Emil and Meta (Berger) Kahlden, she was the oldest of four siblings; Elliot, Geraldine (Ulbricht), Waldine (Mozisek), and Franklin (Butch). Gladys was married to Johnny Guenther for 63 years.

She is survived by daughter, Kathy (Cox) and husband David; son, Kenneth and wife Missy; daughter Karen (Jones) and husband Jerry; son, Paul and wife Cheryl; and son, Patrick and wife Kathy. Her family has continued to grow throughout the years to sixteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband Johnny, son John Michael, grandson Christopher, granddaughter Angela, and daughter-in-law Linda Guenther.

In her many years with us, Gladys witnessed an ever-changing world around her. Yet, she managed to be a constant beacon of graceful strength and stability to everyone around her. Her devout commitment to her Catholic faith and family were unyielding. She was a long-time parishioner of Assumption Catholic Church in Houston, TX and later attended St. Edwards Catholic Church in Spring, TX.

Whether you knew her as Gladys, Momma, or Memaw, she welcomed you unconditionally and would say a prayer for you whether you asked her to or not. Her never ending worry about her family was a testament to how much she cared and that she wanted the best for each and every one of them.

The world needs more Memaw’s, just like her.

A unique “drive thru” visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29th from 2:30pm to 4:30pm at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home for those who would like to pay their respects and briefly visit with the family.
