Glenda Abreo, 79, remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, died on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 9:40 PM at The Forum at Memorial Woods in Houston. She was born in Belmont, Louisiana on September 13, 1942, to Ferdinand and Helen (Martin) Louque. Glenda married William “Bill” Abreo, Jr. on July 31, 1960, in Convent, Louisiana. She is the mother of one son, Damian Abreo. Glenda was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
Glenda attended St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School in Convent, Louisiana, and Lutcher High School in Lutcher, Louisiana, graduating in 1960. She was a bookkeeper by trade and held a number of jobs in that capacity, forming lasting friendships at each. Glenda directed tremendous time and effort to organizations she supported, like St. Ambrose Catholic School, the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, Timbergrove National Little League, and the St. Thomas Mother’s Club. She cherished time spent in regular activities with a group of close friends Glenda colloquially called “The Golden Girls.” Glenda loved music, dancing, working in her flower beds, and being in the company of people she loved. She was consistent. In any disagreement, those who knew Glenda knew which side she would take and why. Through her seventy-nine years, Glenda never met a stranger, never made an enemy, and (like her father and mother) always had the time for a joke, a smile, or a conversation.
Glenda is survived by her husband of 62 years, William Abreo, Jr., son Damian, daughter-in-law, Laurie, granddaughter, Amanda Kathleen Abreo, sisters, Myrna (John L.) Cox of Reserve, Louisiana, and Sheila Schxnayder of Loranger, Louisiana, and in-laws, Kathleen Rice, Steve Darnell, Jeff and Julie Abreo, and Lois Bolton, and nineteen nieces and nephews.
Glenda is preceded in death by her parents, Ferdinand and Helen Louque, brother-in-law, James Earl Schexnayder, Jr., in-laws William A. and Corinne M. (Lowry) Abreo, and Elinor Darnell.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 27, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Heights Funeral Home at 1317 Heights Blvd., Houston, TX 77008, with Rosary at 6:30 PM. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, at 4213 Mangum Rd., Houston, TX 77092 with interment services immediately thereafter at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr., Houston, TX 77055.
“I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.”
