Hazel Hollien of Plano, TX, passed away on April 20, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. Hazel was born on April 20, 1923 to Richard and Lillie Holtz in Burleigh Texas and grew up in a large farming family. She married E.F. Hollien, Jr. in 1945, beginning their long life together in the Spring Branch area of Houston. She worked in the Spring Branch Independent School District for over 30 years in food service. They were active members of Terrace United Methodist Church.
Hazel enjoyed traveling to Texas School Food Service Association conventions, joining her husband at Kiwanis Club conventions and traveling with family. They also enjoyed many deer hunting trips in Texas and Colorado. She moved to Plano, Texas in 2000, where she continued her love for gardening and creative projects. Her favorite love was often being the center of many gatherings, large and small, with extended family. Her love of gatherings did not stop when she entered assisted living in Plano in September of 2016, with her extended family still ever present. She enjoyed the many entertainment programs offered for the residents and was very active in dominoes, bingo, board games and craft projects, with her true competitive spirit always on display. And when invited to dinner, her benefactor would usually be rewarded with a bill that included lobster.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Monroe Holtz, Owen Holtz and sister Evelyn Gutkowski. Hazel is survived by brothers Waldo Holtz, Fort Worth, Texas; Alton Holtz, Bellville, Texas; sister Laverne Uhlig, Katy, Texas; son Ronald (Carolyn) Hollien, Plano, Texas; son Dana (Marian) Hollien, Austin, Texas.
