

Hazel Shea, 94, a 20-year resident of the Shoals of north Alabama, passed into God’s arms Monday the 22nd of February. Hazel was known affectionately by family and friends as Gomma. She moved to north Alabama from Houston, Texas where she lived for over 40 years. She was employed by Foley’s Department Store and later retired from employment at the University of Houston Bookstore.
Born November 17, 1916 in Dallas, TX of parents Lenora Day and William W. Barron, she was a 1935 graduate of Bonham High School and recently attended her high school reunion in Bonham, Texas. Hazel is survived by her sister Maxine Eberle of Dallas, TX; her son Michael Shea of Port Neches, TX and her daughter Catherine Shea of Florence, AL; her grandchildren David Shea of Houston, TX, Christine Shea of League City, TX and Patrick (wife Margo) Shea of Pearland, TX and great-grandchildren Ava, Liam, Ashley, and Katie Shea, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Elbert (Pete) Shea, her sisters Evelyn Hannum, Norine Walker, Alline Barron, and her brothers Dee, Howard, and Chester Barron.
She attended Westminster Presbyterian Church in Florence, AL and was a long time member of Oaklawn Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas, where she was a choir soloist and director of the junior choir. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Choir Scholarship Fund.
Visitation will be on Saturday February 26th, 2011 from 5 pm – 7 pm and funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, February 27th , 2011 at Forest Park-Lawndale, Houston, TX followed by interment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
