Helen Lorene Wall Cook

Helen Lorene Wall Cook, 93, a native of De Leon, TX and a resident of Houston, TX, slipped into eternal life with her Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, February 3, 2014, at VITAS Hospice Memorial Hermann Memorial City.

Helen served many years as a kindergarten teacher for Housman Elementary in the Spring Branch Independent School District. She was loved by many of her former students and the teachers she worked with. Helen enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed teaching her students so much; she became a volunteer tutor after retirement. Helen loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren immensely. As a member of Houston’s First Baptist Church, Helen served many years as a Bible teacher for young children as well as senior adult women. She will be missed but never forgotten by all who loved and knew her.

Those left to cherish Helen’s precious memory are her children; two daughters, Patricia Dale Cook and Cynthia Helen Cook of Houston, TX; one son, Kevin Kelly Cook and wife, Kelly of Humble, TX; five grandchildren, Kathleen, Kristen and husband, Joey, Stefanie and husband, Todd, Jeffrey and Stephen; four great-grandchildren, Kody, Abbie, Jackson, Meadow and a nephew, Joe David Caraway of Fort Worth, TX.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Dale S. Cook, in 1966; father, Hugh Wall; mother, Bertie Wall and a sister, Donna Fae Caraway and her husband, L.G.

Family and friends gathered at a visitation on Thursday, February 6th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston.

Funeral services, led by Reverend Tom Williams and Dr. William Heston, began at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014, in the chapel of Houston's First Baptist Church, 7401 Katy Freeway, also in Houston.

At 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8th, the family gathered in De Leon, TX, where Helen was laid to rest by her husband in the De Leon City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Helen’s name would be appreciated to Mission 1:8 at Houston’s First Baptist Church.
