Irene Dorothy Glowacki, affectionately known as “nana” passed away on Monday, July 19, 2021. She was born in Brackenridge, Pennsylvania on February 10, 1926, to Steve and Josephine Jancula, and was the second youngest of eight children. She met Walt, the love of her life before he went to serve in World War II and the two were married after he returned from the Pacific on October 25, 1947. They were married for 61 years before Walt passed away. They spent their first few years in Natrona Heights, PA and had three children: Curt, Reyne and Denice. In 1969, they relocated to Houston, Texas, where they lived out their lives with many, many good friends and family. Irene was very active in her parish, St. Leo the Great Catholic Church and helped found many of their social clubs such as Guys and Dolls and Ladies of St. Leo’s. Additionally she served on many other committees and was a Lecturer for 20+ years. In 2010 at the age of 84 she was proud to be a part of St. Leo’s Interfaith Caregivers, giving respite to others taking care of the elderly and infirmed. She received numerous awards for her service to the church and community.
Irene loved people. She loved to read, bake, bowl, play golf, host parties for friends, especially Super Bowl parties. She was an avid Steelers fan! Spending time with her 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren brought her so much joy. She looked forward to family dinners and birthdays celebrated at the Ruchti farm.
