

James Robert Simon Was born September 30, 1953 to the union of John Robert and Ella James Simon in Houston, Texas. He was the second of three children. Raised all his life in Houston, Texas and attended Atherton Elementary, E. O. Smith Jr. High, Lamar Fleming 9th Grade, and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1972. James completed three years of study at Texas Southern University, majoring in, as his crew would say, FOOLISHNESS and My My My My!.But truly he majored in Elementary and Physical Education.James accepted Christ at an early age and attended Lyons Unity Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor O. C. Johnson (deceased), now under the leadership of Senior Pastor William Jordan. He later joined the New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in 1999 under the leadership of pastor Emeritus Willie Jones, now being Pastored by Pastor Christopher Moore. In his early years as a member there, James accepted his call to ministry and preached his first sermon. The "I" in the middle of sin, James 1: 15-16. He was Lead Servant of the Drug Ministry, Miracles, Co-Lead Servant of the Evangelism Team, teacher of the Barnabas Ministry, Part Time teacher of the Senior Adult Bible Study class and the Van Ministry. He would drive the Seniors anywhere they cared to go. They were his heart throb; there wasn't anything they wouldn't do for him. As part of the Van Ministry, he would drive the Barnabas Ministry to visit the Sick and Shut In. And Sunday mornings he would pick up members without fail and was always willing to help anywhere he was needed. He will always be remembered for his love of listening to and collecting jazz.James was a caring, nurturing, sociable yong man. He had a knack for encouraging and supporting everyone he met regardless the occasion. One his favorite sayings describing himself was "I'm a real good guy and and a wonderful kind of fellow". And tha was certainly true. There was always that bounce in his walk, swinging one arm as if nothing could touch or ever bother him. He was just a happy soul.James met his wife, Ramona, at a time when New Mt. Calvary was moving into their new sanctuary. They were both employees of the church with Ramona starting a few years before James. They were attracted to each other and shared many things together. They were married September 29, 2012. They were both deeply devoted to each other. And James loved spending time with his children and grandchildren doing all he could with and for them. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella, his brothers Melvin Hall and John Robert High, Jr., and his father in law James Dibble, Sr.He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ramona, sister Jan Renee Sim0n-Vaughn (Archie), daughter C"Ne Dawkins (Jon), sons James Rodney Simon and Jonathan Robert Simon, their mother Rose, stepson Kevin Dibble, Sr. (Brittany).Grand children Lorie Ford, Elyssa Dawkins, Miles Jor-El Simon, Kevona Naylor Dibble, Kevin Dibble, Jr., Brandy Dibble, and a host of other relatives and friends.He also leaves to mourn his passing "The Crew"; O. D. Simpson, Rev. Larry White, Tony Styles, John Glenn And Michael Red!; and Honorary Crew Member Pastor Eric Wilson, Sr.
