JC is preceded in death by his mother Selma Tarver, father Cecil Coyle, and sister Jannie Housewright.
He is survived by his wife Alice Coyle and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His children are Larry Coyle, Susan Spurgeon, Cindy Ribando (spouse Philip), Denise Makepeace (spouse John), Brian Hurst (spouse Tammy), and Jennifer Kuhn (spouse Casey).
JC’s grandchildren are Alan Kingery, Michael Kingery, Jordan McCoy, Kara Pederson (spouse William), Bake Hurst (spouse McKenzie), Lindsey Siemers (spouse Jared), Chandler Maynard, Brock Hurst (spouse Abigail), Elizabeth Ribando, Christopher Ribando, Luna Makepeace, Kennedy Kuhn, and Riley Kuhn.
His great-grandchildren are Colton Pederson, Coen Siemers, Henry McCoy, Braden Hurst, Caleb Pederson, Bella Siemers, and Theodore McCoy.
JC graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1958. He joined the Army National Guard during college. He was continuously employed by Continental Emsco Co as a Tubular Sales Manager from February 1958 to February of 1998, when he retired.
After retirement, JC was a sales associate with World Ventures. He and Alice took many cruises while involved with the organization. He enjoyed traveling and was especially thrilled to be able to travel to Israel in 2006, where he and Alice were able to renew their wedding vows at Canaan.
A faithful member of Houston First Baptist Church since 1981, JC served as an usher and baptismal ambassador. His passion was working at the church’s mission. He worked in the food pantry, picked up food donations, as well as sorting and hanging clothes.
JC was also an active gardener. He had a bountiful garden at his home in Spring Branch for many years. When he and Alice moved to Katy, he took over the garden at their apartment complex. He grew vegetables that were shared with the other residents.
After open heart surgery in 1986, JC became a runner, following his doctor’s advice to remain active after surgery. He joined Houston Fit and began training to run marathons. He ran in a total of 11 marathons from 1992 to 2000. The Houston, New York, Big Sur and Twin Cities were some of the major races he completed.
An avid Houston sports fan, JC supported the Texans (and the Oilers), Rockets and Astros. He also supported his Louisiana Tech teams and was particularly proud of the women’s basketball team.
Visitation with the family will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 20, 2025 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road, Houston, Texas 77055. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m. Private Graveside services will be held in Woodlawn Garden of Memories.
