Javier Alejandro De Leon, Sr., known to all as Alex, was born on November 30, 1946, in Laredo, Texas, and passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the age of 79, in the presence of his loving family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Evelyn De Leon; daughters Dory Ward (husband Chad) and Kimberly Emel (Brad); son Javier De Leon, Jr. (Norma); granddaughter Caroline Jean (husband Mathis); great-granddaughter Claire Evelyn Jean; siblings Gilbert De Leon (wife Martha), Arcelia Bean (husband Larry), and Andelia Cooper (husband Glen); numerous nieces and nephews; and his dearly loved pets, Trapper, Willow, Louise, and Hope.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro Rivera De Leon and Maria Adelia Buruato De Leon; brothers Ismael De Leon, Hector De Leon, and Pedro D. De Leon; and sister Adelia De Leon.
Alex served in the U.S. Army as a Hawk missile crewman stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso. His awards included the National Defense Service Medal and an Expert Rifle commendation. He loved his country and was a proud patriot.
Alex believed deeply in hard work and was proud to work for UPS for many years. After every hospital stay, he couldn’t wait to get back to work. He would often return even after receiving chemotherapy infusions—despite our frequent objections. His work family meant the world to him, including Arty, Cooper, Darrel, Ernest, Guy, Pete, and many others.
Alex loved his family, saltwater fishing, boating, football, and classic rock. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan but would also root for the Texans. His sense of humor and quick wit were unmatched.
Dad, you will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
