Joe Douglas Sims

Joe Douglas Sims, a beloved resident of Galena Park, Texas, passed away peacefully August 8, 2025. Born in Willow Grove, Texas, on September 29, 1942, to Joe Wheeler Sims and Minnie Mellon Sims. Joe and his brother Jerry Wayne Sims were raised on the family farm in Central, Texas where they thrived. Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Frances Jean Nix Sims and his son Joe Douglas Sims, Jr.

Joe lived a life defined by strength, dedication, and spirituality. A devoted member of the Masonic Lodge, and a retiree of Port Terminal Railroad. Joe contributed countless hours to community service and was a pillar of support for his family and friends. Joe's unwavering spirit and commitment to helping others reflected his belief in the goodness of humanity. Joe enjoyed NASCAR, boating, fishing, baseball and spending time with his family. Joe enjoyed community, and was frequently found spending time with his Masonic brothers, neighbors and friends. Joe also loved doting over his beloved dog Boogie Bear.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Marie Sims Hunt, son-in-law Robert (Rob) Hunt, grandsons Justin Moore and Cameron Hunt; brother Jerry Sims, sister-in-law Phyllis Newman Sims, sister-in-law Lela Belle Nix Thompson, 4 nieces, 2 nephews, their families, along with other extended family.

Joe will be profoundly missed by both family and friends alike. However, he will forever remain in our hearts.
