Joel Phillip Killingsworth

Joel was born December 4, 1947 in Heights Hospital in Houston,Texas, the son of Wendell Horton Killingsworth and Sybil Lorene Mayfield. After graduating from Sam Houston High School he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant. After receiving an honorable discharge, he attended the University of Houston, then went on to work as a Certified Public Accountant for nearly 45 years.

He married Darlene [Smith] Killingsworth on July 12, 1980. They were married for 45 years.

An avid hunter and sports fisherman, he enjoyed memorable times with close friends Ed Harrell, Craig Wooten and Hal Holtman. Joel volunteered in leadership as Scoutmaster for his sons' Boy Scout troop and held numerous roles in the Texas Society of CPAs.

Joel is survived by his wife Darlene, sons Matthew and Andrew, Andrew's wife Ashley and grandson Colin. He is also survived by sister Colleen Killingsworth and Deborah Yocham; brother-in-law Donald Smith and nephews Don Smith, Don's wife Sonja and Randy Smith. Also his great nephews and great niece.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday August 13, 2025 at 11:00am at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 13102 North FWY, Houston, TX 77060.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Joel’s memory may be directed to the Coastal Conservation Association of Texas.
