

John M. Meyer passed away peacefully at the age of 102 on Sunday, March 21. He was born July 28, 1907 in Houston to Hedwig Emma Paula (nee Vieweger) and John August Meyer, who immigrated to America from Germany through Ellis Island. John grew up in Pasadena and played football at Pasadena High School and was the first football captain. He graduated in 1925 and attended Texas A&M. About that time he met and married Sylvia Wilson of Pasadena. He worked for RCA for many years and installed and operated sound and projection systems in many Houston area movie houses. He owned and operated the Cedar Bayou Drive-in theater in Baytown. Among his many other notable accomplishments were his assistance in development of radar systems during WWI and his later involvement in the local real estate scene. John was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years and his sister, Isabella Bjerring. He is survived by his daughters, Sylvia Jane and son-in-law, Joseph Stephan Slowensky of The Woodlands and Susan Estelle and son-in-law, David Alfred Copeland of Cincinnati, Ohio. Grandchildren, Joseph Slowensky and his two daughters, Cheyenne and Lacey, Amy McVay and her husband, Greg and daughter, Reagan, Laura Stanley and her husband, Matt and their son Brennan, Emilie D'Agostino and her husband, Mike and two children, Emerson and Margo, Wendie Jaymes and her husband, Dylan and two daughters, Asa and Michaela.
The visitation will be held from 10:00-12:00 on Friday, March 26th at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home and Cemetery and a graveside service will follow at 12:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in John's memory to a charity or church of one's choice.
