

John Manuel Ortiz, 74 passed away peacefully, October 27, 2014. Manuel was an avid sports fan. He loved the game of softball and played men’s fast pitch softball well into his sixties where he made many close friends along the way. A Master electrician, Manuel joined his craft in his early twenties and was well respected in the electrical community. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dolores Cortez Ortiz and grandson, Austin Ortiz, brothers, Joe, James, Billy and Roy and sister, Mary Ellen Salazar. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Ortiz, children, Gabe (Debbie) Ortiz, Felecia Ortiz, and Andrew Ortiz; grandsons, Anthony and Andrew Ortiz; step sons, Anthony Martinez (Araceli), John Ray Martinez (Claudia); grandchildren, Steven Martinez (Kristina), Robert Hernandez, and Isaac Martinez, Krystal Vallejo, Angela Salazar, and one great grandson, Saxon Martinez; brother Jesse (Susan) Ortiz, sisters, Yolanda (Billy) Hall, Linda Medina and Diane Williams as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers; Anthony, John Ray and Steven Martinez, Manuel Cantu, Arthur Cortez, Tony Rangel, US Army Sgt. Leo Richardson, Andrew Ortiz, A.J. Ortiz, Joe Longoria, Jr. and Robert Hernandez. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 29, 2014, 5pm – 8pm, and Thursday 11am – 8pm. A rosary will be recited at 7pm Thursday evening. Funeral Mass is scheduled for Friday 10am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman, Houston, Texas 77018. Interment will follow at Brookside Memorial Park.
