Juanita V. Cook

A loving wife and mother passed away August 14th, 2021.

Juanita was born in Belott, Texas, October 27th, 1929 to Alton and Lena Mae Vaughan. During World War II they moved to Houston, Texas where she met William (Bill) Clifford Knight. They married in 1945 and in 1947, Linda Sue was born. Bill Knight passed in 1948, leaving Juanita and Linda to move back to Crockett, Texas to live with her parents. In 1949, she met James Lloyd Cook and dated, fell in love and married March 18th, 1950. Linda was 3 years old when James adopted her. In 1952, James Stephen Cook was born and the following year they moved to Deer Park, Texas. During this time, Juanita went to Lee College and then the University of Houston where she received her teaching degree in 1965. She began her teaching career at Deepwater Jr. High and retired from Bonnette Jr. High in 1990.

Juanita is survived by her son, James Stephen Cook and wife, Maria R. Cook, grandson, Eric Ramirez and wife, Kae, great-grandchildren, Dylan Ramirez, Raina Ramirez, Juan Diaz and Lillie Ramirez. Also, grandson Vaughan Penny, great-granddaughter, Lexie Penny and great-grandson, Evan Penny.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, James and daughter, Linda Sue Penny.

A visitation for Juanita will be held Monday, August 23, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas 77023, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
