Julia Arauza Ortega, a beloved resident of Houston, Texas, passed away on August 8, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on October 4, 1937, Julia was a cherished member of her community, known for her adventurous spirit and compassionate nature.
Julia's early life was marked by her work at Hines Bakery as a cake decorator, where she worked alongside her sisters and sisters-in-law. Her career later led her to Northwest Memorial Hospital, where she dedicated over 20 years of service, including her role as a Spanish interpreter in the emergency room. Her work there was a testament to her hard-working, honest, and compassionate character.
Julia was married to Vincent Arauza, a career military man, with whom she had eight children. After Vincent, she married Fred. Her family was central to her life, and she always aspired to have a big, happy family with diverse personalities. Her personal interests included playing cards, working with plants, spending time with family, and reading her Bible. Julia's community involvement was highlighted by her commitment to "Save the Earth," advocating for never wasting and recycling everything.
Her personal qualities of being brave, gentle, humorous, inspirational, kind-hearted, loyal, patient, resilient, thoughtful, and wise left a lasting legacy. Julia was known for her generous and faithful nature, and she was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Julia's family expresses their gratitude to everyone who visited her at home and in the hospital over the past few months. Her final words to her family were to remember the fun and love that she advocated for them.
Visitation will be held at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060, on August 17, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The funeral service will take place at the same venue on August 18, 2025, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, followed by the committal from 11:30 am to 12:00 pm.
Julia is survived by her daughters Jo-Ann Arauza, Arlene "Cha-Cha" Arauza-Herrera (Yvette Herrera), and Natividad Arreaga (Eddie Hatcher), and her sons Gilbert Arauza (Rina Arauza), Paul Arauza, and Steven Arauza. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Ortega and sons John Vince Arauza (Arlene Arauza) and Victor Lee Arauza.
Pallbearers honoring Julia's memory include Nicholas Arauza, Christopher Arreaga, Christian Arreaga, John Paul Arreaga, Michael Anthony Arauza, Steven Joseph Arauza, and Marc Anthony Arauza. Honorary pallbearers are Eric Arauza and Joshua Arreaga.
