Julie was born on May 26, 1946, in Houston, Texas, to Rome and Jamie Landry. She was raised alongside her beloved sisters, Patsy Alston and Romell Francis Underwood, in their cozy two-bedroom home in the Meadowbrook subdivision. The Landry family were faithful members of Trinity Episcopal Church, the second oldest Episcopal parish in Houston, where Julie's lifelong commitment to the Lord took root. She and her sisters spent their days singing, dancing, and helping around the house—expressions of joy that filled their home and stayed with Julie throughout her life.
Julie graduated from Milby High School in 1966, where she met the love of her life, Jim Maxcey. They married in 1967 and went on to spend 58 beautiful years together, raising three sons in the Clear Lake area of Houston.
After high school, Julie began working at AIG Insurance alongside her mother. She and a friend once interviewed to become flight attendants, but when Jim heard of her plans to travel the world, he knew it was time to propose. Julie then devoted her career to managing dental offices, where she formed lasting relationships and earned the respect of colleagues and patients alike.
Julie was known for her incredible smile and ability to bring everyone together. She was the ultimate party planner and organizer, she was the COO of her family. Julie had a deep love for dancing and tennis, but her greatest joy was found in raising and supporting her three sons Doug, Brad, and Wade, later, becoming the best Mimi to her five grandchildren. She was a fixture at every baseball game, PTA meeting, and school event—always cheering from the sidelines and serving as team mom for many of her sons’ teams. She also gave generously of her time through her involvement in the PTA, Little League, the Rotary Club, and other community organizations.
Julie is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Jim Maxcey; her sons and their families: Doug and Lori Maxcey, Brad and Stephanie Maxcey, and Wade Maxcey and his partner Melissa Balderes and her 2 sons Kevin and Kaleb; her treasured grandchildren: Justin, Dylan, Logan, Reese, and Weston Maxcey; and her sister Romell Francis Underwood. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who were touched by her warmth and unwavering support.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rome, and Jamie Landry; her sister, Patsy Alston; her in-laws, J.W. and Polly Maxcey; and her brother-in-law, Mac Maxcey.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 17th at Forest Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, with Lee Whitlock/Phil Pampolina officiating. A reception will follow at Forest Park. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association in mom's name at www.alz.org
Julie’s legacy of faith, family, and love will live on through every life she touched.
