Kathryn, known by most as “Chickie,” was born and grew up the youngest of six in Houston, Texas, the daughter of John Fuller Dillard and Leila Mae Dillard (nee Shine). She attended Montrose Elementary, Lanier Junior High, Lamar High School, Southwestern University, Southern Methodist University - receiving a degree in Elementary Education and finally earning her master’s degree in counseling from Texas A&M.
She met her beloved husband, Johan “Hans” Flick, at a youth social event at First Methodist Church, Houston. They married in 1962, and raised their two children, Michael and Karen, in Houston, College Station, and Sugarland.
In her professional life, Kathryn was a gifted educator and respected counselor. A source of joy and laughter at all her schools, she was beloved by students, parents, and teachers. She touched enumerable lives throughout her career in education, making her community a better place, through her compassion, her kindness, and her wit.
Kathryn had a wide circle of friends from childhood, school, work, and church, and she especially enjoyed traveling, gathering, and lunching with her Tri Delta sorority sisters.
But above all, she loved her precious family. Marrying Hans, raising Michael and Karen, nurturing her five grandchildren - knowing them and loving them was the success story of her life.
